Michaela & Ben’s November 1st wedding was one of those days that felt both deeply sentimental and joyfully alive — the kind of wedding where every detail had meaning, every moment felt intentional, and autumn showed off in its perfect, fleeting way.

From the very beginning, I knew Michaela & Ben’s wedding was going to be something truly special — not just because of their love for fall or meaningful family traditions, but because they are big film lovers at heart. They appreciate the artistry, the nostalgia, and the intentionality that comes with shooting on film, so we approached their wedding day with extra care and attention, documenting so many moments on both digital and film mediums.

My second shooter, Blaine, even brought out a 4 x 5 large format camera as a wedding gift to them — creating timeless, formal portraits that feel like heirlooms in the making. It was such a beautiful way to honor their love for classic photography and create something truly one of a kind.

I first got to photograph Michaela & Ben during their engagement session in the West Village in New York City, wandering around near the Whitney Museum where Ben works. From that session on, I could feel how connected and intentional they are — both with each other and with the moments they choose to celebrate. Carrying that same energy into their wedding day made everything feel full circle.

Their wedding day began at Michaela’s childhood home in Clifton, Virginia — a place filled with history, family, and so much heart. Michaela got ready surrounded by her mom, sister, and grandmother, Margaret (affectionately called Omi). One of the most special details of the day was Michaela wearing her grandmother’s wedding dress, paired with an Audrey-inspired veil finished with a tiny bow. It was timeless, elegant, and incredibly meaningful — a true nod to the generations of love before her. One of the most emotional moments of the day came when Michaela shared a first look with her grandmother. Watching Margaret see her granddaughter in her wedding dress — the same dress she once wore — was pure magic. There were tears, hugs, and the kind of joy that stays with you long after the day ends.

Meanwhile, Ben got ready in the home’s library, where a grand piano sat waiting. Ben played a few songs for us, filling the house with music while we captured the moment on both digital and film. This morning felt intimate, relaxed and so “them”.

Shortly after, Michaela and Ben shared their own first look outside the home, tucked away among the trees and trails they grew up around. It was private, sweet, and full of laughter — Michaela’s infectious energy meeting Ben’s calm glow in the most perfect way.

The celebration continued down the road at their family friend’s farm, where open fields and fall colors created the perfect setting.

Their ceremony was heartfelt and intimate, surrounded by close family and friends. You could feel how loved they are — every smile, every tear, every reaction spoke volumes.

During cocktail hour, guests mingled while enjoying delicious Lebanese cuisine, and the barn was filled with warm light and thoughtful florals that complemented the season beautifully. As the sun began to set, Michaela and Ben snuck away with me for golden hour portraits amongst the stunning burning trees.

Inside, the evening unfolded with their first dance, a sweet cake cutting, emotional toasts from Michaela’s sister and Ben’s sisters, and a second dress reveal — Michaela changed into a custom reception dress tailored by Loulette Bride in New York that was perfect for dancing the night away.

Michaela & Ben’s wedding was a beautiful reminder of why I love being a wedding photographer. Its so special how one day could be so full of nostalgia, family tradition and new beginnings, quiet emotional moments and joyful chaos blended with personal touches. M & B — thank you for trusting me to capture your story. Your day was filled with so much meaning, ephemera, laughter, and heart. It was truly an honor to be a part of it.
xx,
Natalie
