Photographing a proposal is one of my absolute favorite things—it’s such a personal, intimate moment that captures the essence of a relationship. When Misha reached out to me to help plan his proposal to Allie, I knew this one would be especially unforgettable. With a perfect blend of surprise, romance, and meaningful details, this December proposal at The National Portrait Gallery was a moment I couldn’t wait to document.

When Misha reached out a few weeks before his proposal, he had one goal: to make sure Allie’s surprise was flawless. He’d been planning for months, working around their hectic political careers and busy schedules. But Misha had a plan to make this moment unforgettable—one she wouldn’t see coming.

The Plan

Misha had everything set for their upcoming European trip—skiing in Austria and Germany, the romantic getaway they’d both been dreaming of. But Misha had led Allie to believe he was planning to propose during their trip. The stage was set for a twist that she’d never expect.

On Saturday, December 14th, Ally’s day began just like any other. Her friend Martha, in on the secret, told Ally that they were heading to an event at the National Portrait Gallery. “Get dressed up,” Martha said, “We have something exciting to do!” The idea of a fancy outing was enough to get Ally in the right headspace, but she had no idea what was coming next.

Misha and I met up before Ally arrived at the museum, fine-tuning the details. Misha was already waiting in a vibrant corner of the museum atrium surrounded by festive Poinsettia flowers for the moment of truth: in just a short time, Ally would arrive, completely unaware of what was about to unfold.

The Big Moment

Martha led Allie into the museum, completely under the impression that they were having a girls night, but then there was Misha, waiting with a ring and a lifetime of love ready to be promised.

The moment Allie laid eyes on Misha, the room filled with emotion. After years of being together, the time was finally right. Their proposal was simple, but perfect—surrounded by art and architecture, but with a sense of intimacy that only the two of them could share. Misha dropped to one knee and asked Allie to marry him. And of course, she said yes.

We captured the joy of the moment in a few photos around the atrium and through the gallery’s stunning exhibits. There was no rush, no distractions—just pure happiness and the excitement of starting this next chapter together.

Christmas Market Magic

After the proposal, we headed out to the Christmas market for a few more photos. The atmosphere was buzzing with holiday cheer, the perfect way to end the day. Misha and Ally’s next chapter of their love had just begun, and the holiday decorations around them made everything feel that much more magical.

A Surprise That Will Last Forever

This wasn’t just a proposal—it was a celebration of everything Misha and Ally had built together over the last five years. It was a day they would look back on as one of the most romantic, thoughtful, and beautiful moments of their lives.
