Whitney and Jerry reached out in the fall, hoping to capture maternity photos to announce their baby boy arriving in January!! I recommended Brookside Gardens for their session, and when we arrived, the autumn colors absolutely showed up to impress — golden leaves everywhere, crisp air, and that soft sunset glow from the last rays of summer that make everything feel extra magical.

They wanted something natural, effortless, and true to who they are — a mix of in-the-moment connection with a few gently guided poses that didn’t feel too “posey.” I cringe at overly produced, “posed” imagery as well so I typically approach an engagement or maternity session like a mini adventure, in this case, a walk in the park. I guided them into poses using prompts that encouraged natural movement and laughter.

I recommended Brookside Gardens for their session and I will absolutely be going back, even in my off time. The park itself is such a peaceful retreat with natural landscapes and peaceful walkways. It was the perfect place to capture such a special season of life for them.

Brookside Gardens does require a photography permit for portrait sessions, which allows couples to explore and take photos throughout the gardens during their reserved time. Photo permits are a small investment that make the experience worth it — keeping sessions relaxed, respectful of other visitors, and allowing for more private access to a beautiful location.

These photos remind me so much of why I love shooting in outdoor, natural locations with couples. The connection to nature allows you to relax, breathe and slow down together, resulting in photos that feel genuine and full of life. Whitney and Jerry’s fall maternity session was the perfect mix of playful, intimate, and timeless, and such a beautiful way to celebrate the journey into parenthood. 🍂
