Last fall, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Hannah and James’ maternity session at LED Studios in Old Town, Alexandria. From the moment they stepped into the studio, I knew this session was going to be something special. Hannah, a gorgeous redhead with the most beautiful freckles, and James, effortlessly cool in a t-shirt and jeans, wanted a session that felt natural, intimate, and celebratory—a reflection of their love and the exciting new chapter they were stepping into.

We started with a relaxed, casual look against a clean white backdrop. Hannah wore a cozy brown ensemble that draped over her growing belly, and James kept it simple and classic. My goal with maternity sessions is always to create a space where my couples feel completely at ease—no high-pressure, overly posed moments, just the two of them, taking time to appreciate this fleeting season of life. I gently guided them through different postures and movements, but really, their love did all the work. The way James looked at Hannah, the way she naturally rested her hands over her belly—it all felt effortless and so genuine.

For the second look, Hannah changed into a breathtaking cream gown with delicate pleats that flowed beautifully over her baby bump. She looked ethereal, almost goddess-like, and I wanted to capture that feeling in the photos. I played around with motion blur, allowing the soft light and movement to create an almost dreamlike effect. It was stunning to witness—her feminine energy, the anticipation in their eyes, the quiet excitement that filled the room.

Maternity photography holds a special place in my heart. There’s something so powerful about documenting this transition—the in-between of who you were and who you’re about to become. It’s tender, transformative, and filled with an unspoken kind of magic. With Hannah and James, that magic was undeniable. I left the session feeling so grateful to have captured their love in its purest form—calm, connected, and absolutely radiant.

To all the expecting parents out there, I hope you give yourselves the gift of preserving these moments. They’re once in a lifetime, and they deserve to be remembered beautifully.
