Welcoming Baby Gus: A Last-Minute Maternity Session

When Caroline & Tom reached out to me just a week before their due date, I couldn’t have been more excited to document this special moment for them. Maternity sessions are always such an intimate and beautiful experience, but something about capturing these two, so close to meeting their baby, made it even more magical. They welcomed me into their home with such warmth, and from the moment I stepped in, I knew this session would be something special.

A Cozy & Meaningful At-Home Session

Their gorgeous home in Alexandria, Virginia was the perfect backdrop for this session—cozy, personal, and filled with the kind of love you can feel the moment you walk in. We started in Baby Gus’ nursery, where the anticipation of his arrival was so tangible. Every little detail in the room was carefully chosen, and I loved capturing Caroline & Tom’s quiet excitement as they imagined their little one soon filling the space.

From there, we moved into their bedroom and living room, where the two of them naturally fell into the kind of effortless connection that makes photographing love in any stage so rewarding. We played with their record collection, filling the space with music and laughter, documenting these last quiet moments of just the two of them before their lives changed forever.

As the golden hour set in, we took a walk along a nearby trail, soaking in the crisp autumn air. The trees in Alexandria were showing off, with warm amber and burnt orange leaves painting the perfect fall scene. The golden light wrapped around them, and it was impossible not to feel the beauty of this in-between moment—the calm before the next adventure.
