Some couples are just magnetic—Christian and Greg are that kind of couple. The kind where you can feel the history and laughter between them without needing to hear the full story. Lucky for me, I did get to hear the full story. And document it. And cry over it (just a little).
I met Christian & Greg through a lovely planner referral, and when they reached out about planning a Georgetown anniversary session to celebrate ten years together, I was immediately in. Not just because Georgetown is one of my favorite places to shoot in DC, but because their energy? Infectious.
Christian and Greg met exactly ten years ago—April 13, 2015. It was the most “college guy” intro ever: a firm handshake and a “hey, what’s up bro?” That moment happened in a booth at Tombs Bar, a local Georgetown staple with a long history of devoted regulars.
Christian, a senior at Georgetown and the Head Manager of the men’s basketball team, and Greg, a senior at GW, started a long-distance love story—trains and buses every two weeks between DC and NYC while Greg worked in the city.
Over the years, their lives intertwined deeply: both presidents of their fraternities, moving to Maryland “just for a bit” after COVID, traveling the world, and always returning to each other.
Now, they’re getting married in September (also the 13th!) in Lisbon, Portugal. And they wanted to mark ten beautiful years with photos in the place that started it all.
We kicked off the session at The Tombs Bar, a divey, local spot that holds so much sentimentality in Christian and Greg’s story. It’s more than just a favorite watering hole—it’s a cornerstone of their relationship. As soon as we stepped inside, there was a spark of familiarity between them and the space. They slid into a booth, ordered drinks, and immediately settled into laughter and easy conversation, pointing out all of the memories they have there and saying a familiar hello to the staff. I captured them in their element, cozy and relaxed, with little glances and moments that spoke volumes. Tombs was the perfect beginning—nostalgic and grounding, like starting a story where it naturally wants to begin.
From there, we wandered through the streets of Georgetown, with the gorgeous university buildings towering in the background. The college neighborhood was glowing with fresh spring leaves in every shade of green, and the lighting was absolutely perfect. It was the first 80-degree day after a long DC winter, and everything felt alive, buzzing with the kind of energy that only early spring can bring. As we strolled past ivy-covered buildings and winding cobblestone sidewalks, Christian and Greg fit right into the setting. We paused often—laughing, lingering, and leaning into those intimate little moments that just naturally unfold when two people are completely at ease with one another. Their connection was effortless and electric.
Eventually, we made our way to M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, where the infamous PNC Bank stands—the exact spot where they first met. It was busy, as it always is, but the chaos worked in our favor. We played with motion, letting the energy of the crowd swirl around them while I captured some sharp moments between the blur. The result was dynamic, full of life and contrast—just like their story.
We ended the session at Volta Park basketball court, where Christian laced up his one-of-a-kind Retro 4 Jordans—a pair of sneakers so rare, only 17 were ever made, and his is the only one in this specific colorway in the world. These shoes aren’t just cool—they’re tied to a legacy. Christian was Head Manager of Georgetown’s Men’s Basketball team during their 2013 NCAA tournament run, and this pair was gifted to him during that unforgettable season.
As they playfully faced off on the court, I photographed them mid-game—competitive, silly, and completely in sync. It was the perfect high-energy close to a day that had already been bursting with love, light, and the kind of joy that comes from a decade of shared life.
This anniversary session was about more than capturing pretty pictures. It was about honoring the journey of two people who have built a life full of adventure, mutual respect, and deep-rooted love. Whether they were sipping a cold one at Tombs or goofing off in their Jordans at the basketball court, every image from this session feels like them—playful, magnetic, grounded, and real.
If you’re considering a Georgetown anniversary session or looking for a DC photographer for your LGBTQ+ engagement or wedding, let’s talk. It’s my greatest honor to document stories like these—where authenticity leads and love is the main character.
